Billing method is unverified

I got hired for a new job with the full contract amount showing as deposited in Upwork's escrow, but at the same time it's showing "This client's billing method is unverified".

I am a bit confused how the billing method might be unverified if the escrow had already been deposited. Should I continue the contract or will be there be issues when I request a payment release?

Tell the client you look forward to getting started as soon as the payment method is verified.

Unless the client verifies their payment method, the funds can never go anywhere other than back to the credit card they came from. So no, you can't get paid without that step. But it is perfectly common for clients to initiate the verification at the same time as funding the first milestone.

That said, usually clients swiftly get this done so there is no need to worry at this stage.
