Bonus offered to me but nothing done about it

My client offered to pay me a bonus for doing extra work but I'm yet to receive it. I have followed them up and heard nothing back. It's been nearly 2 weeks... I'm concerned that I've done extra work for them expecting a bonus and now I won't receive it.

That is a valid concern. The correct way to go about it would have been to invite the client to set up a new milestone, or to set up a milestone yourself and wait for the. lient to activate and fund it. Then you'd have been paid by now.

Unfortunately, with no money in escrow and no active milestone for the additional work, there is nothing that can be done about it.

Bonus payments are handled on the honor system. They are between the client and freelancer. Upwork will not get involved.

Petra already described the correct way to do this.

For the record, Upwork allows advance bonus payments.

You could have told the client to pay you the bonus payment first, and then after you were paid you could have done the extra work.
