Boosting Proposal for New Freelancers

When a new job pops up, freelancers suddenly boost their proposals and bid the highest number of connects.

Even if I apply to Best Match Jobs, I worry that my proposal will drop to the 5th position or lower because four freelancers have already boosted their proposals.

So how can new freelancers with fewer connects survive here? Does applying for jobs without boosting really matter now? Because within just a few minutes, freelancers boost their proposals.

What happens to the remaining un-boosted proposals?

Why would you think that clients only read the boosted proposals? It would be pretty silly to post a job and only read four of the proposals. Plenty of successful freelancers say that they never boost but still get hired.

According to Upwork, non-boosted proposals are ranked based on best match. However, trying to determine your proposal rank is fruitless. Even if you think your proposal is the best match, it doesn't mean your proposal will be placed in the 5th position behind the first four boosted proposals. The algorithm could determine that 25 other proposals are better matches, and might move your proposal further down the list.

"Whatever hiring rate is zero, nowadays algorithms should boost organic profiles based on performance ranking. However, Upwork does not offer location-based profile boosting options so I don't trust Upwork and their tools totally useless   and I think applying for a job there is a waste of money."

Why would new freelancers receive special treatment? we all need to work, so, the way this platform works is if you need to be in the first four positions you need to spend money, otherwise write a killing proposal and see if you get hired.
