Can I create an account for my friend using my computer and my IP address?

Can I create an account for my friend using my computer and my IP address?
I will not use this account, I just wanted to only create the account from my PC. Is it allowed?
Thanks in advance.

No.

You can not create accounts for other people. Only for yourself.

If you are caught doing something with another person's account, you could be suspended or permanently terminated from the platform.

Someone who can't figure out how to fill in the Upwork account creation form would probably not do well anyway.

I understood. Thank you so much.

One more question: Can't 2 different persons use 2 different accounts (different criteria) using 2 different PC from the same IP?

Sorry, no.

That just likes you created another account, and your IP is already associated with your account.

I've had to use my wife's computer as a backup to mine. Are you saying that I'm not supposed to log into my Upwork account on her computer?

(She is not an Upwork freelancer.)

Okay, got this. Thank you.

Upwork does not block multiple people from using the same IP address.

That doesn't make sense, and it isn't practical. Many people use dynamically-allocated IP addresses. There could be a hundred people who use the same IP address, because it is part of a pool of addresses.

It is not a violation for two people to use the same computer, or the same IP address.

But keep in mind that Upwork has automated algorithms that look for patterns indicative of people trying to cheat the system or violate Upwork ToS. If Upwork's algorithms flag a user, then Upwork employees investigate further. Somebody who is honest should not worry. Somebody who is dishonest is likely to get caught and lose their Upwork account.

Hi Preston,

Thanks for the details. But I am a bit confused now.

I understood from your last reply that I can't use my PC and IP for creating an account for my friend. Then I got from Jennifer that 2 persons can use 2 different accounts using 2 different PC from the same IP. I think this meant me and my wife can work using our same IP but with 2 different PC. Here I thought the main difference was the PC.

Now I just got this from your reply that two people can use the same computer, or the same IP address. That means I can log in from my friend's PC/IP or my friend can log in from my PC/IP if we want. Am I right? Is this mean the only problem to create another account from my PC/IP?

I am honest. There is no intention to do anything wrong. I just wanted to help my friend if I am safe.

Thanks again.

You can not create an account for somebody else.

You can not log into somebody else's account.

You can not know another user's username or password.

This has nothing to do with computer. This has nothing to do with MAC address. This has nothing to do with IP address. None of that matters.

What matters is the human being.

A computer is not a person.

If you LOG OUT of your computer account, and then you leave your computer in a room, and you LEAVE THE ROOM, and somebody else uses that computer to create their own unique Upwork account... that is NOT a violation of any rules.

If you go to your friend's house, and your friend is using the computer, and you say "Hey, can I log into Upwork for a few minutes?" ...You can do that.
Your friend LOGS OUT of Upwork. Your friend LOGS OUT of their computer account. Your friend walks out of the room. You log into the guest account. You then log into Upwork. If you did that, then it would not be against any rules.

Does your friend need to leave the room? Let's say that this is an "unofficial rule" that I made up SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU TO FOLLOW. I do not want you to even be in the same room as somebody else who is creating an Upwork account. Not looking at what they are doing. Not telling them how to do it. Not giving them instructions.

If you want to "help" somebody, then leave the house, go to a local bakery, buy some pastries, and eat them. While you are eating them, talk about Upwork IN GENERAL. Do not help somebody create an account.

๐Ÿ™‚ These make sense. Thank you so much.

I know one husband and wife with two different accounts on Upwork.

I'm pretty sure they're on the same IP.

Cool! This is a "Light".

Here's the short version: as long as the two people don't know each other's password (and don't log in for one another), they can use whatever computer they like.
