Can I donate some connects to someone?

This question has been asked, but not in a while: Is it possible to donate or give some of my connects to someone else?

I have a friend who is just getting started on Upwork, and she's currently doing the free thing (which is changing soon, yes, I know.) I'm already a paid member, and I don't always use all my connects.

I'm helping her get started, and I wish she'd told me she needed help six months ago, but she didn't. I know my connects will roll over, but she's bidding and not getting much, and almost out of them. I would like to donate some of my connects to her, since mine will be renewing this week and I'll have more, so she can try getting more work and ratings. I've been on Upwork for over 2 years and working, but she's only had a couple of small gigs.

Is this possible, and if so, how do I go about doing it?

Thanks.

Ok, thanks.

Hi Amy,

The best thing you can do is tell her to take her time when it comes to sending applications. When her connects renew, tell her to focus on sending applications to posts that she really identifies herself with the work.

Another thing you can do si simply send her the needed funds so she can become a paid member. This would allow her to get a few extra connects as well as learn more about the benefit of being a paid memeber. She should join before all the changes happen, that way she will get the extra set of 60 connects in addition to the new ones.

Good luck!

Best,

Hugo

She needs to be Top Rated to get the one-time allotment of 60 Connects:

Current Top Rated freelancers and agencies will be given a one-time allotment of 60 Connects, to help with this transition. You must be Top Rated when this launches in your category to qualify.

Hello, All:

I didn't even realize these answers were all here.

My friend ultimately joined on her own right before the transition, and she has been quite successful in getting jobs. I'm so glad, she was about to give up.

We subscribe to an external tool that emails jobs as they are posted according to parameters you set. We now send these listings back and forth to each other, as well as to others we've brought onboard the platform.

Thanks for the help, it worked out in the end.

Do you mind sharing the tool?

It was called Early Brd. It was something that sorted out new jobs for you.  We were just beta testers, but it's a paid service now. It's not an Upwork tool. I might go back and pay for it and see if it's better now.

Hi Amy, as Avery mentioned, there is a post (I believe it's not too far down in Coffee Break) that explains how to set up an RSS email that will let you know when new jobs with certain keywords are posted. I get notified within a few minutes for my searches. And it's free. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Keno,

You can also turn your search into an RSS or Atom feed so you can receive automatic updates in a third-party feed reader. Each feed will return up to 50 results per update. You can learn more about setting up your RSS or Atom feed by checking the section "Save a job search to your RSS or Atom feed" of this article.

How do I even get connects? I"m trying to get hired and cannot seem to get over some barrier that I do not quite understand, frankly.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Have you read the material provided for new FLs in this forum and in the Help and Support section of the site? If not, you really should not do anything else until you have dones some homework and understand how this platform works.

You will have received 20 free connects when you signed up. (If you signed up before June 2019, then you accumulated 60/month from when you came on board until your category was shifted to the paid connects program, at which time you could roll over your unused connects, up to 140.)

However many connects you began with, when they are used up you have to purchase more, at a cost of $0.15/connect in bundles of ten.

Dunya, I think that you should rewrite your profile; currently it looks like you just copied and pasted your CV? You can start by reading the advice here: https://www.upwork.com/blog/2018/09/upwork-profiles-title-overview/
