I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, you were scammed. Not only is it unsafe to send (or receive) payments off of Upwork, it's against the rules as well. Please go over the Academy materials (click on the link at the top of this page) and learn how to use Upwork before you send any more proposals. In general, if you follow the rules and don't believe that it's possible to make easy money here (because it's not), then you'll stay safe.

What do you mean by "manually" gifting you? If a client wants to pay you a bonus, it's immediately deducted from their credit card. But that doesn't mean that your payment is safe; if they're paying you with a stolen credit card, for example, Upwork will reverse the payment. A payment can be reversed even months later.

A lot of scams start out with a "client" paying a bonus to freelancers and fooling them into thinking that their payment is safe. The fact that you're asking about it here makes me think that you must believe there's something strange about this client, like perhaps they've made you an offer that's too good to be true? I can't see your profile to tell whether you're new or not, so can you explain a bit more about what type of job this is and what the client wants you to do?

I think I have been scammed Christine, Because I thought the bonus sent to me was safe payment and will be released to me in 24 hours. The nature of the job was a crypto tutorial job and I already deposited the equivalent crypto amount of bonus to his wallet. I feel so stupid and downcasted right now, Immediately I saw the funds on upwork, I assumed it was safe and protected by escrow, I didnt know it worked differently. I'm finished!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
