I have very specific criteria for when a fixed priced job makes sense for my kind of work and if the client's project does not meet it, and I still feel it is worth proposing (which is unlikely), I would suggest that I will only do it hourly. That has yet to work out but that's fine.
My theory is that most client's don't really know the difference and fixed price seems safer (which I am not entirely sure it is). I will take one chance to educate them as connects aint no thing if I feel like there is a potential win there.
