I submitted a proposal, I was asked to contact someone via email (guessing it's the boss who doesn't have an upwork account) and went through a couple of email interviews. I'm looking at my message from the original poster and it now says that they no longer have access to upwork. Does that mean they were kicked out for scamming?

There are TWO main things scammers look for in freelancers in order to make money by stealing money or time from freelancers:
- NEW Upwork users
- entry level or Virtual Assistant freelancers
You are both.

Once you gain some experience, this won't be much of a problem because:
- scammers rarely bother experienced freelancers
- experienced freelancers can easily recognize scammers.
For now, we WANT you to succeed in finding a job and earning real money.
But until you have some actual experience doing so, scammers are a possibility.

it is three, actually. The third is "US based" and she is all three. It'll be a "send money to scammer / fake check" scam. Those invaribly are.
