Client already funded the milestone without confirming the budget with me.

Hi everyone, can you guide me with the best action to take at the moment.

A client hired me to fix minor bugs in $50, I completed that.

Then he assigned me a new milestone of $100 for a new project without confirming the budget with me. Generally I charge $300 for the same thing. I told him the same and also explained with a video why it cost that much. I didn't received any response from him. I have also told him if it exceeds his budget he can cancel the milestone, but I guess he didn't watched the video. I also sent him a followup message, he didn't replied to it either.

So now what action should I take? Is there a way I can refund him his $100 (but it is in escrow, not with me) or cancel the milestone?

Don't agree to the new milestone. And don't bother the client further. If he's interested he'll come back to you and either agree or not to pay you the amount you require.

So, you mean I should leave the funded milestone as it is?

For example, what I would do is, if a customer has opened a milestone without prior arrangements and has deposited money in escrow, and you are not happy with this and the customer does not respond to you, I would not confirm the milestone to begin with, but if you have confirmed it, then I would do some work and send it for review, at least to try and contact the customer and avoid overstaying the open milestone, but if the customer is outraged and opens a dispute, the platform is likely to be on your side, because you, have written and sent a video to the customer explaining the project, (this is my point, I am not encouraging anyone)

Jut leave the milestone as in and move on to other projects unless the client contacts you. The funds will eventually be returned to the client if you don't agree to the new milestone.

Update: Client replied to my message saying:

"Hi Sameer - I did check the video - your suggested price is above our budget."

To recap:
- He sent me an offer of $50 for Milestone 1, I accepted it, did the work, and got paid.
- He assigned me Milestone 2 for $100 without confirming the budget with me, as soon as he did this the milestone was funded and active (so basically I didn't have any option to accept it or decline it)

Now what should we do, how can I give his $100 back which is in the Escrow? OR any possible solution for this scenario?

Well there are only two choices, either accept it or reject it.  If it was me, I woul reject it and refund his money.

Not in the budget is nonsense. You stay firm.
