Client and Freelancer fees and taxes

Hello. I'm a little bit confused about taxes and fees on upwork. Can you tell me which fees should pay clients  and freelancers? Also, should clients or freelancers pay other taxes to some governmental structures? Thank you very much

Hi Stefan,

Have a look here:

Clients:

https://www.upwork.com/hiring/how-to-post-a-job-on-upwork/?utm_campaign=How%20to%20post&utm_source=B...

Freelancers:

https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/211062538-Freelancer-Service-Fees

If you come from one of the EU countries you will also have to pay VAT on the 20% service fee if you don't have a VAT number.

And yes, you do have to declare your freelance earnings to the relevant body in your country. So you will need to find consult a tax expert in that country.

Does someone advise me, does the client need to pay any taxes if is invoiced via Direct contact?

The freelancer is a non-US citizen.
