Client canceled the job

hi. I need urgent A Moderator support, Yesterday a client awarded me a job and when I got to know that he didn't funded any amount and his payment method is unverified.
I told him to fund the money. he said that he is waiting for Upwork's verification for the money (I don't know what is the process for the client).
so now in the morning he ended the Contract without any reason and I got a mail to refund the amount in the escrow.
I want to know if he had funded the money while I was sleeping? or he is just a spam?
and I have two questions

1-Is it possible a client to start a Contract without funding?

2-what would be the impact on my Job score when I am a victim of this type of Spam?

1) Only hourly, not fixed price

2) Not if he never verifies his payment method

Why did you even accept the contract? All you had to do was NOT accept it until things were sorted.
