Client is backpedaling...

Hello Upwork community. I am new to the platform and applied for a job. I got an offer and accepted. I finished up the project on Friday and today I'm told they want an edit - no big deal, but also told they wanted images with a video. The contract was for one video with no mention of images. They said they saw that I offer images on my profile so assumed it was included. I told them I'd be willing to add on to the contract, but they didn't agree and said okay to the edit.

I sent the edited version of the video over and now they're picking at it more as if they don't want to have to pay for the contract since things they thought were included (but were absolutely nowhere in the contract. I followed their script to a t and even filmed every thing the way they had it in the transcript. Is there a way to report the client so I can still get paid for the work I completed without a negative review. She's fighting me on every message. Please let me know. Thanks so much!

You are wrong.

It IS a big deal.

You DID THE WORK already.
The client needs to pay you for your work.

It IS NOT OKAY for the client to ask you to work for free.

If the client is asking you to do ANYTHING outside of the original written task agreement, it means the client is asking you to work for free.

Don't do it.

Nobody can "ASSUME" that you do something and then ask you to do it.

You would be making a huge mistake if you let this happen.

You let the client start down this road, and now you are regretting it.

Now you realize that when you gave the client an inch, she took a mile.

In the future, DON'T WORK FOR FREE.

When you do the work, you submit it. Then it is done.
If the client asks for anything else, tell them that the work has been completed and that you will be happy to do more work on the project after they release the money in escrow, close the contract, and set up a new hourly contract. Then you'll be willing to work on whatever they need, while you log time.

You may need to do this:

Hi Amanda,

If you get paid both parties can leave both Public and Private reviews. Try your best to work it out with the client by getting them on the phone and talking it out. How much do they owe you?
