Client is spreading malware/spyware

Hello everyone,

please be warned of the following job proposals as they are fake and the link sent in it is a spyware

This was sent to me as part of an Upwork recommended job on the e-mails sent to Top Rated Contributors, and it is unnaceptable. Upwork shouldn't give the idea that these job suggestions are hand-curated specifically for us, and this is the proof that they aren't. Anyway, for new contributors please always be cautious in cases like this.

Kind regards,

Francisco O.

Hi Francisco,

Our team will review and remove these jobs shortly, and check the attached files. Please take all the necessary measures if you suspect your computer's security was compromised, primarily changing your login details and running an in-depth scan for malware.

Could you please take a screenshot of the email notification that included these jobs and share it with me in a pm?

Thanks for reporting.

  1. Today i had received a project proposal which is having some link. May be malicious links, because when i clicking on links upwork shows a warning message. Please confirm whether client is genuine or not. I am attaching screen shots of project proposal to me.

You posted screenshots showing that the "client" sent you external links.

But you have not been hired.

This client is not planning to pay you money.

This does indeed look like a scheme or something malicious.

You were wise to report this.

If this person wants to have you start working or studying external tutorials, he needs to HIRE you first, so that you can GET PAID for your time.

Francisco [and everyone else] -

I, and my colleagues, am sorry that this exe was sent to you. To remedy this in the short term, I am asking the team responsible for the email to not recommend openings that have attachments. While I agree this is not the best solution it is the quickest.

In parallel there are other teams here that are working on a solution to the malware post issue at large. I can't say anything more on the matter [primarily because I'm not involved in those discussions], but they/we are aware that this is not a small issue.

Again, I apologize that this ever happened to you.
