Client not approving the milestone

I have done the job and submitted the milestone a week now,

but the client is not approving or even asking for resubmission.

I'm sending a message to him, but I'm not recieving any response from him.

What should freelancers do in this kind of situation?

Alex.

Freelancers should leave the client alone and under no circumstances press the resubmit button.

That way they get paid automatically 14 days after the last submission.

Hi,

So once I clicked "Re-submit" the 14 days counting will start again,

From the original day of submission?

Every time you click on "resubmit" it starts the 14 day count-down over again. Do not touch it!

Hi Alexandre,

Yes, clicking the resubmit button again will reset the countdown for the automatic release of Milestone funds.

It's been 14 days. The amount is still in Escrow.

Hi Sairaj,

When you submit your work, your client has 14 days to review and either approve the milestone or ask for changes. If your client doesn't respond to any milestone submission within 14 days, the deposit is automatically released to you on the 15th day for as long as you do not re-submit your work for payment. Feel free to check out this help article to learn more.

Thank you,

Hi Alexandre,

Please review this Help article and note that funds will be automatically released to you 14 days after the most recent Milestone submission, unless your client responds to the release request in the meantime.

You only have one open contract and that in an hourly job. This means the client can ask you to do the same job over and over again and all you have to do is track the time and get paid.

BUT: Since it is an hourly job, only you can are alloed to work on it. If other people work on the job it is a ToS violation.

re: "Can I contact UPWORK during the project?"

It is not Upwork's intention that you contact them about this matter. But what you have done - posting your question in the Forum - this is a good idea. This is really what Upwork would like you to do with these types of questions.

And you have already received great advice from Jennifer.

re: "I can feel my client is not fair to me. Can I talk with Upwork?"

It is not Upwork's intention that you contact them directly to discuss situations like this. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like here in the Forum.

Hi,

Check my agency member profile. We take the order on this profile. It is not an hourly job.

Thank you

Sara:
I really am sorry to hear that you are dealing with an unreasonable client.

I believe that you ARE being treated unfairly by this client.

But Upwork really is not the "fairness police."

I don't think it would do you any good to contact Upwork Customer Support. Upwork employees generally do NOT insert themselves into contracts between clients and freelancers. They are not supposed to judget who is right or wrong when there is a disagreement like this.

I believe you would derive more benefit by discussing your situation here in the Forum and asking questions about what to do next.

Without knowing more details about your situation, I can tell you this:

YOU are the freelancer. YOU and your team need to decide what you will and will not do. The client who hired you is not your owner or master.

If you have completed the original task that you were contracted to do, then I advise you to do no more work on the project. Tell the client:

"Helen: We have completed the original agreed-upon task, and we have actually done quite a bit more than that. We would be happy to continue working on the project. You may release the current escrow payment. After that, we will be able to continue working on this."

If the client releases the payment, then you can close the contract and then require the client to create a new hourly contract to pay you for additional work. If the client does not release payment, then you will do no further work. Be sure that you have clicked the "Submit Work and Request Payment" button, and don't click that button again. If the client does nothing, then Upwork will release all escrow money to you automatically.

You need to remember that it is a violation of Upwork ToS for a client to ask a freelancer to work for free. So the client is breaking the rules here. You are not doing anything wrong.

The only open contract by any of your agency menbers is your hourly contract. Are you sure you even have a contact?

Hi Sara,

Could you please click on my name and send me a PM with more information about the contract you're referring to? I’ll check that for you and assist you accordingly.

Thank you.

Hi, i'am going through a similar situation, but in my case, my assignment has been verbally approved by the client. The problem is, he hasn't approved the 1st milestone yet, I requested for a payment twice already. Strange enough, the client wants me to move ahead and do another assignment. Not sure if he wants me to keep on working for free. Is it a new kind of scam on Upwork because I've been here for more than a year and never experienced such a thing. All my clients have been so considerate of my hardwork and timely submission. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated in this case. Thanks in advance!

Hi Aleena,

Please note that when you submit a payment request on a milestone, the client has 14-days to review the submission. Within those 14 days, the client may ask for a revision. I can see that you submitted your work for review three days ago. The client still has 11 days to review the work. If the client doesn’t take action ahead of the 14-day review period, the money in escrow will be processed to your account.Once the first milestone has been released, and the second milestone is funded, you can then work on the second milestone.

You can communicate with your client and let them know that to protect both you and them under Upwork’s Payment Protection, it would be best to work on a funded milestone moving forward.

You can check this help article for more details.

Hi Aleena,

As  mentioned by many of community members and moderators, you just need to wait for 14 days. After you submitted the milestone, payment will be approve by upwork automatically after 14 days.
