Client paid in "Bonus Payment" instead of releasing the two milestones

Client created two milestones when we opened the contract. but he paid me as a "bonus payment" not by releasing the milestones. And currently he's not requesting any more work, There is still future work but not sure when. Its been 2 month or so since we both went inactive. Does having unreleased milestones & an inactive contract negtively affect me? can we end the contract without releasing the milestones? if not , can i refund the "bonus payment" then tell him to release the milestones?

I think, active milestone doesn't affects negatively...

My suggestion to you would be, keep the amount in the escrow, as the client may have more work for you and you might loose that, after refunding the amount in the escrow...

Do some follow ups and see, what he has to say about more work, or you can also offer some additional services to him/her, he/she might be insterested in...

All the best!

You might want to let your client know that money in escrow on a milestone automatically gets sent back to the client after 90 days.

Thanks for the reply, On the contract page it still says "money in escrow x$". the contract started in 21 December 2018. which is way past 90 days. does that mean he got the money back? can we close the contract safely if then ?

If the money is in escrow, it must have not been refunded...

Does not look like  90 days have passed. Or am I just too sleepy and missing something
