Client task ia to sign up for an stock affiliate link-- does this breach Upwork TOS?

I submitted to a job that was pretty vague. Client wrote "Need help with a quick task and provide feedback. Won't take more than 10 minutes."

Turns out he just wants people to use his affiliate link to WeBull and Acorns for their promotions.

Is this something that violates Upwork's Terms of Service?

Gaming other platforms ratings, etc. is likely a violation of those platforms' rules. Upwork does not want freelancers doing such work. Someone can probably find where that is addressed in Upwork's Terms of Service...

Hi Lauren,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting this here. Please note that a real client will never ask you to give them money to start working, cash a check for them, work for free, or provide your personal information.

I have escalated your report to the appropriate team for review. They will surely look into this job and take action accordingly if necessary. You may want to check this help article and this thread for more information on how to stay safe on Upwork.

We also encourage you to let us know if a TOS violation has happened by using the Flag as Inappropriate option throughout the platform. You can learn more about user reporting here.
