Hello everyone,
recently, I had a good interview for a job and was waiting for the client to make a decision about hiring. I had all the info I needed to start working, but without a contract, I didn't want to start. Nothing happened.
About a week later, I followed up with the client and learned I was still being considered for the job.
However, instead of making a decision, the client closed down the job and posted another version of the same job again (actually, I later saw that it was for the third time at least). They are not new to Upwork, so they know how things work on here. They also got very good feedback from freelancers before.
Now I'm wondering what's going on. Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance!
Best wishes,
Beate

Hi Beate,
Yes, I have experienced being the only one being interviewed and they like me but yet they disappear. No communication, nothing. This has never happened to me on Upwork and I'm so disappointed that this is happening. Not sure what to make of it.

Hi Beate,
It's understandable to feel uncertain in this situation. The client may be still evaluating their options or perhaps reconsidering certain aspects of the job. Sometimes, clients may repost a job to attract a different pool of applicants or refine their requirements based on the feedback received.
Given the client's experience on Upwork and positive feedback from freelancers, it's likely they are genuinely considering their options and trying to find the best fit for their project. I'd recommend staying patient and continuing to communicate with the client to express your interest in the job.
If you haven't already, you might consider reaching out to the client again to inquire about the status of your application or express your continued interest in the project. This could provide you with some clarity on the situation.
Best of luck, and I hope you hear back soon!
Warm regards,
Saima

I know my response sounds negative, but I don't think the client cared about hiring anyone who applied for the job. Telling a freelancer "you're still under consideration for this job" sounds nice, but if a client really wants a particular freelancer, they can make a connection and invite that freelancer to their job.
Being a little more positive: many sections of an active job post can be edited. However, clients cannot change the job from Hourly to Fixed-Priced (or vice-versa). To change the payment type, the client has to close the job and repost it. So maybe the client wanted to change the price structure?
I still think a client who really wants a freelancer can find a way to get to them. Upwork encourages clients to let freelancers know they're making changes to a job--especially if they have already invited or interviewed freelancers for the job. I'm not sure if your communication with the client is considered an "interview," but I think if the client really wants to hire you, they will mention the changes and ask you to apply to the reposted job.
