Clients want me to tryout

Hi, one of my clients wanted me to try out one of the projects first before deciding whether to hire me or not. Recreating one of the projects and them made the contract if he likes what it looks like. He gor five starst rating and all but I am not sure. Is this usual for clients to want the freelancers to tryout first?

Just tell the client how much you would charge for recreating page 13.

Clients are not allowed to ask for free work, and that client didn't "quite" ask you to do what they suggested for free, they left that open.

So you could just say "Sure, I'd love to recreate page 13 and would charge $ XX for that."
