Hi,
I asked this previously and someone did answer how I can close it myself BUT NEVER MENTIONED that it might affect my JSS. I closed 3 to 4 inactive contracts that day. You can imagine how it negatively affected my JSS.
So now, I'm a bit cautious. So far, I have one inactive contract and I want it closed.
Here are the facts
(1) I know the client will never respond. He used to be working with a company but now he is no longer working with that company. I also confirmed this fact with his other teammates, of which I am currently working for.
(2) I have earnings on this contract.
(3) The contract started on September 2018
(4) There's no communication for the past 2 months.
(5) I have 32 jobs with 4 self-closed contracts
(6) I have a 91% JSS at the moment. So you know the feeling.
So far, I know the following based on forum and documentation
(1) Contracts with a history of earnings but no feedback, whether closed or not, are mostly excluded from your JSS. However, if you have many contracts where no feedback has been given, it can impact your score (a little) negatively because it indicates some of your clients were dissatisfied
(2) From a forum post "Therefore, do NOT close several old contracts in the interest of tidying up. Close them one at a time, at intervals, so each one is an anomaly that will be outweighed by others that carry client feedback." https://community.upwork.com/t5/Freelancers/Closing-contracts/m-p/503019#M306444
My question is if I close that inactive contract will it affect my JSS? I'm currently confused about the documentation statement of "However, if you have many contracts where no feedback has been given . . ."
I understand that this question might already be redundant so thank you for looking at the problem.
P.S. Hopefully Upwork provides protection to Freelances from inactive contracts that are mostly client inflicted. Whenever I visit the forum, there is always some posts related to JSS.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Closing inactive contracts where money has been paid does not affect your JSS, only if they are excessive, which it is not in your case. More likely some good contracts fell out of your calculation window.
