Closing my account

My name is Sheila and my log in name is **Edited for Community Guidelines**. I tried to log in this weekend and was not able to. Instead I was taken to an old account of my sons which he does not want anymore-he moved out and is employed and going to school. My questions are: How did they become merged and how can he close his?
