Closing my upwork account to start a new one.

Helo guys, I am a wordpress specialist. I started using upwork for my first time ever and made a few thousand in less than 2 months. I accidentally took a bad client in and she left me a REALLY bad review I did NOT deserve.  I want to start a new account so I can keep a top-rated 100% rating.

Are we allowed to close our account and start a new one? I want to get serious about working on this platform and will admit a made a mistake or two and want to get a fresh start. I will provide better communication, client approval, and higher rates are things I will keep in mind this time around.

Thanks guys and I hope everyone doing well!

No, you are not. It's how you get suspended and banned.

You have had great feedback since the poor outcome, just keep going in that direction and improve your JSS.

One account per person (to prevent people from doing exactly what you plan to do). On the bright side, once you become top rated, you can remove the feedback.

It's already long gone

I had said closing my account and starting a new one, never said having multiple accounts.

2 is more than one.

If you close one and open another, there will be 2.

2 is more than one, and that is not allowed.

Closed accounts are accounts too.

Hi Trevor,

Please note that users whose accounts were closed are not allowed to create new accounts to comply with the Upwork Terms of Service.

Thank you.

You only get one account. If they let people delete and start over, that would open things up to all kinds of abuse.

But one bad client is not the end of the world, nor is having less than a 100% JSS. Anything over 90 counts toward being top rated.

And if you already were top rated, you could have used your perk to delete the one bad feedback (assuming it hasn't been used in the past 3 months and 10 jobs).

He wasn't top rated at the time.

The good news is that it will only take a couple of jobs completed well to get safely above the 90% line, and then, in March, the bad contract falls out of the 6 month window and no longer counts anyway provided the JSS in the 6 month window is better than the 1 year window.

The trick is to plough on and get a few good outcomes. The contract ended with no payment, so there is no visible reminder of it on the profile anyway.

I am going to get my score back up, I don't want to get banned for making another account so I will tough this one out. I already finished another job at 5 star.

It turns out you can bring your job success score back up too 100%. So in my case I no longer even care to start a new account I am just going to keep doing good work and overtime my score will go back to 100%

I don't think many people know this. If I know I would of never of even cared about that bad feedback I received(after doing an entire perfect job on time for bottom dollar). I ended up just refunding the lady her money because she really took time out of her day to write negative slandering things on my public profile to hurt my income, which is able to take to court due to her slandering.

I am back on upwork making jobs and getting more good reviews. Never again will that happen again. I am under the impression after I keep working I can get my 100% JSS back.

Doing great work will bring your score up regardless of whether you work for "bottom dollar" or not (and in fact, Upwork will soon start weighting low-paid projects differently than highly-paid ones, when it comes to calculating JSS).

This is good news thank you Christine, the reason why I said the bottom dollar is because it's always the miser who speaks the loudest on these platforms.

I am no longer really concerned about that rating and am happy to hear higher-paying jobs weigh more. A high paying client has never said anything to me except for thanking you.

Be aware that when you refund clients it adversely affects your JSS because it counted as a job with no money. It may seem like a good idea, but sometimes it is better to take the hit and work your way out of the hole.

I currently am getting my JSS back above 90%, it currently sits at 84%. I want to know if over time it is possible I can get that up to 100%. Do feedbacks fall off after a certain time? Is it possible to get your account back to 100% status? I have reason to believe this is possible. Thank you.

It's possible since JSS uses 6, 12, and 24 months windows, so given time, all public feedback, negative and positive, drop out of the calculation window. However, I don't know for a fact that private feedback also drops out of the calculation window.

Thank you for the response. I have noticed some freelancers lose the 100% status and get it back. I think it is unfair to punish someone over 1 review for many years.

The windows include contract outcomes which are positive, negative or neutral. When outcomes drop out of the calculation window, the entire outcomes drop out, not just an aspect of it.

So with only good outcomes in any given calculation window, the JSS is 100%.

Really, I had no idea? This is why I was upset. I do exceptionally good work and wished I could keep the 100% or 99%

So you are telling me, if I keep doing 5-star work for months and months then my score will eventually go back up to 99% ( theoretically ) ? ? ? ? ?

This is awesome if that's true.

I am going to close the thread when I have a clear answer on whether or not you can bring an "85 JSS" to "100 JSS" overtime.

Yes, you can bring it all the way back up to 100%. As the others have stated, there are three "snapshots" of your JSS: six month, twelve month, and two year. The better of the three is your JSS. If you score all perfect in a six month span then your JSS will go up to 100%.

My account is back at 100%
