If the other freelancer site is taking CC info and is in the US, they have a number of compliance issues they need to consider. But, you should be very careful of who you give info to since there is nothing that stops someone from storing in plain text.

The best thing to do is to use Paypal. Nothing is stored on the local site except your paypal email. When someone pays through paypal, paypal sends the vendor a transaction ID and that's it. So, if someone hacks the system, they will only see an email and a transaction ID.

OF course, if the site is poorly designed and info is stored in plain text, having your paypal email and login credentials the same is gonna just get your paypal account hacked too.

I am sure that Upwork is PCI compliant but you'd be surprised at how info gets passed around.

Another option is to use an Internet only credit card, so you know to check it. Never use a debit card online, although I use mine on platforms I know are secure like Google. If someone steals the debit card, they go shopping and of course you could lose a lot of cash and be in a boat load of trouble if you have bills to pay and have to wait for the dispute to go through.

I'm talking about Upwork and the mess of logging in and find another freelancers profile. What are you talking about.

LOL You asked about privacy and data protection. Can you see their CC info? I'm guessing the answer is "No."

Absolutely nothing. Upwork has lost all control over the site and data and every promise they'd make is a lie as today proves.

You can not access anything in it. Click on ANYTHIING and it gets you to your own info, own messages, own jobs etc

I have also just been told by Support that it is fixed

They should have taken it offline as soon as this was reported. What a mess.
