When you take out a paid membership. Free connects no longer exist, you either have to buy a paid membership or pay for connects,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but connects are no longer renewed. You need to now need to purchase them, then throw them to the wind. I say throw them to the wind because we really don't know what happens on the other side if they are even viewed, filtered or put in a "Not applicable" bucket.

Russel, have you got any proof about the existence of the ""Not applicable" bucket? Besides, if Cristina is new to Upwork, you must be totally confusing her!

Confusing her by what means. I answered her question. Connects are now paid. Right? There is no renewal.

Confusing her by mentioning what might be the new Upwork myth, the not applicable bucket. Otherwise, yes you are right, free connects are a thing of the past, now.

It's still happening Luce, but apparently by bots, not talent specialists (don't know what's worse).

I've followed the thread, Virginia, and find this notion a bit scary, however, to my mind, no one was able to prove the reality of the "bucket". But as some people love to use algorythms this would not totally surprise me.

Wrong.
Rene (I think it was, someone has, anyway) posted a screenshot. It is real and has been for a long time.

Good luck finding it, that was months ago - likely at the time of the debate about the Untalent-Experts.
It was also on reddit at some point.

The thread I linked to is from (was started) yesterday. Both Rene and another freelancer/client confirmed that bids are being thrown in a whatever.
