Contract End

Good morning,

I have a contract that has ended.  The client is hiring for a position within their organzation.  Do I have to create a new contract and go through the conversion process with Upwork or can I take the job now that the contract has ended.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Melissa:
Upwork asks that freelancers continue to handle all payments through Upwork with any client that meet on Upwork, for a period of 2 years.

So it isn't about an individual contract. It's about a length of time.

You can work with this client using Upwork contracts, or do the conversion.

You can read more here:

Move Outside of Upwork

It's a different position than what I do on Upwork. Upwork is how we
connected and the contract has already ended with this client.

Melissa:

The position or nature of the work does not matter.

Upwork asks that freelances continue to maintain their contracts and payments through Upwork for a period of 2 years since the time they started working for a client, or go through the official conversion process.

Honestly, the simplest thing for you to do would be to have the client set up a new hourly contract and use that for payment and work-tracking purposes for 2 more years. And then if you want to revisit the working relationship after that, you can do so.

How do I find out what the conversion fee is?

It's in the ToS, I believe starting at around 3K.

Read here.

The Conversion Fee Formula

The Upwork Conversion Fee is 12% of estimated earnings over a twelve (12) month period based on the freelancer’s hourly rate.

Conversion Fee = 12% of hourly rate x 2,080 hours (52 wks x 40 hrs)
