Contract cancelled by client

Hello Upwork, 

I am writing to tell you this one client he cheated me He told me to work I finished his work But he did not pay and ran away He also canceled his contract when he left. Which can cause a lot of damage to my profile. This client was new on this platform, it has done a great deception. Will this contract affect my profile? I'm really sorry to be working with this client.

Clients are allowed to end a contract at any time. There is nothing wrong with that.

It is not "cheating" for a client to end a contract.

Then it sounds like you (the freelancer) made a mistake in how you used Upwork.

That is not how Upwork works.

If you used the tool properly, then there is no way for a client to unilaterally decide to  "not pay" you.

If you were not paid anything, then the contract will not even appear on your public profile page.

This would have no impact on your JSS at all, unless the client gave you negative private feedback.

You need to figure out what you did wrong here, so that you don't make the same mistake again in the future.

Answer these questions:
- Were you hired officially with an Upwork contract?

- Was this an hourly or fixed-price contract?

Were you actually hired?

Was the milestone funded with the amount that was agreed?

If the answer is yes, then the client can't just go away without paying, you would have to agree to a return of the escrow funds.

Are you sure you had a proper Upwork contract in place?
