Credit Card Details were stolen

I am asking this question in behalf of my client/employer. The Bank advise him that his credit card details in Upwork has been stolen and tried to use it in store. How come someone stole his credit card details? Is this this really possible? FYI, I am still working with him and advise me to ask this question here in Upwork Community. He forwarded the email from his Bank about the card details were stolen and the email from Upwork. I hope Upwork could help/fix this matter.

You're a banker according to your profile. Presumably you know what is and what is not possible, and you would also know that the bank would have no way of knowing where a CC became compromised.

If the contract is on hold encourage your client to resolve the issues with his payment method directly with Upwork and stop working until it is resolved.

I have to say, however, that I am seeing some red flags with regards to that job.

Generally we find that people steal credit card details because they want to use somebody else's credit card to pay for goods and services rather than using their own money.

Preston, I just nearly blew coffee all over my puter.  It's not a funny situation, but I'm just shaking my head as I know you and others are as well.
