The IRL proposal game is very different from the freelance platform game.
As Tonya indicated, more connects are the last thing needed. Learning to determine the most probable buyers and then tailoring a proposal properly is the key to acquiring work.
According to the OPs profile he is a successful freelancer on Upwork and charges a proper rate. If he needs additional connects it should not be a problem for him to buy some. Obviously, there are enough jobs he can apply for. I have tons of connects because I only find a few jobs that are worth to apply for.

Writing is a crowded field unless you have your own niche. It won’t get less crowded if you allot everyone so much connects. Actually, there are sh**load of people here who have no marketable skills at all, they use all their connects to spam every job posts with totally irrelevant proposals written in Engrish.
Yes, you’ve read the story of one client who complained about not receiving enough proposals. You extrapolated it into thinking that it’s a widespread issue. You don’t know how wrong you are and how those cra**y proposals not only annoy clients but have a negative impact on the whole platform.
And you want to give those zombies even more connects because you are struggling to find your own winning strategy. You’re neither the first one nor the last one to claim more connects. After all, it seems logical, if you struggle to sell with 60 connects, you need to get more of those, right?
But it won’t happen I guess and I hope. If you really think you need more connects, especially up do 150–200 of them, then you may want to stop bidding on jobs, to sit down and to think what’s wrong. Is it you? Is it the market? I don’t know to be honest, but it’s certainly not the connects since many others are pretty successful with only 60 connects per month. And it’s not just a handful of people that I’m talking about.

I think 60 connect is ok for freelancers, If you get 150 connects what will happen you know, Freelancers will bid most the job and client will go crazy.
Now freelancer bid the job which close to his or her skills, I support upwork in this regard, Otherwise, it will be big hassle for client
