Crooked money

I have done work for a client with an original budget of 25$. We then continued the project and he ended up paying me 50$.
Upwork has only given me a balance of 20$ on this where I expected 40$. This is very very annoying. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please keep in mind that once your payment is approved the funds will become available to you after our 5 days security period is finished.

The second payment will become available on your account tomorrow. To view in what stage your earnings are go to Reports > Overview. Thank you.

So what is the security period all about? I have learned that PayPal's security periods are simply periods after PayPal has recieved funds from your bank that they hold the money!  And if one holdd lots of money for a few days one will always have a pool of money invested -- the holds are surely using our money -- hidden fees?
