I would like to express my disagreement with the recent changes on the Upwork platform. I have been working on Upwork for two years, and it has been an amazing journey. It provided me with a great opportunity to expand my work globally and earn extra income. However, when I first joined, it was quite challenging to get admitted due to the high number of applicants with similar profiles. Now, it seems that anyone can join without having a decent profile.
Finding a job on Upwork used to be difficult, but with the increased competition, it has become even more challenging. The growing number of freelancers willing to work for very low rates has resulted in a decline in job values. Additionally, the recent increase in the number of required connects has made it harder to apply for jobs.
As a freelancer and agency, I used to pay for a premium account, but now I find myself constantly purchasing connects, only to receive fewer responses. It feels like the platform is shifting towards becoming a project catalog, resembling the way Fiverr operates.
Unfortunately, these changes have led to a weakening of the magic that Upwork once had. It has become harder to secure high-quality job proposals, despite spending more connects. I believe that these adjustments are diminishing the platform's strength and compromising the overall quality of work.
I have read many other comments from fellow freelancers regarding these issues, and I understand very well that every business has operational costs. I agree with them in that aspect, but I feel that they are trying to make more money at the expense of project quality.
I hope that my comment is taken into account and proves useful in continually improving the experience for both clients and those of us who work here. I hope that Upwork continues to grow, improve, and differentiate itself from its competitors.
