Do open contracts without any spendings offer any tax benefit to employers? Because i have a client who has hired me for a month or so and then dissappeared from past 16 months. And though he is not spending anything, i suspect that he is claiming a sort of tax benefit from the tax authorities for hiring workforce from Upwork.
What i mean to say is that this guy is keeping the contracts open and is not spending anything, but still claiming tax benefits for hiring workforce on Upwork. So, far he has hired almost 13 of us on different projects and has paused all the contracts since Nov,2016.
I am a freelancer from India and i have almost zero knowledge of the tax structure in United States. So, asking out of concern....

No, of course not. Chances are the client's project didn't work out so he abandoned it...
Just get the client to end the contract, if that does not work, end it yourself.
