Do the client needs to approve my proposal before I start doi g the project

Hello!

So, I was invited to the interview which I accepted and the client explained what is requested of me, but we didn't sign the contract. So this means, when I open in my app Projects, this one is stated as active project, but there is nothing under the section Contracts. Does the client need to accept my proposal first, before I start working? Thank you!

The client will need to send you an offer and once you've accepted the offer an official contract will be formed. Please keep in mind that In order to be eligible for our  Upwork Payment Protection you will need to be hired on an official contract and fulfill the criteria required. Thank you.
