Does Upwork team member really send invitation to freelancer?

I got an invitation :

I'm Mrs.XXXXX, Upwork Success Talent Specialist. I help Upwork's newest clients find the best freelancers for their first job postings. I'm currently assisting Mr. XXXXX in finding an outstanding contractor to join their team. Based on your background and skills, I thought you might be interested in this opportunity.

Is She really from Upwork Team?
Or this she is faking her identity?

That's a real program. I can't say whether the message you received is legitimate or not, but what you describe here does happen.

Ryo, I agree with Tiffany.  I will share that in my own personal case the majority of the time my background/skills don't relate exceedingly well to the job post or the job post is demanding availability different than mine is as stated on my Profile.  Hopefully your invitation is a better match to you.  Good luck!

That is true for me, too, Pat. I would say the invitations that come through the "Talent Specialists" are generally the furthest off base in terms of the services I am offering. They are also often jobs that pay far less than I would accept, even if they were within my niche.

Based on nothing but my own speculation, I suspect that this happens because Talent Specialists are encouraged (perhaps required) to match new clients with top rated freelancers to ensure a positive experience--but, when the job is low-level or the pay is low, it's difficult to find top rated freelancers whose profiles are a true match.

Tiffany, I'm glad you brought up about the pay; I should have.  The majority of these invitations I receive as well are also at a lesser rate than I would accept; oftentimes far less.  Those few that are at my rate aren't aware that in addition to my rate I charge bonuses and/or commissions which makes it considerably higher $'s than they're thinking.  However, in those cases I will follow through and state my expectations if the project is something I'm qualified for and interested in and believe the Client will be a good one.

 Confirmed.

I experience the exact same issue.

+ the fact Talent Specialist need a bit more training. Just last week I received a "Talent Specialist" invitation to a job which asked for a free unpaid trial. I wrote about it here on the forum, though my inquiry was related to a different issue, and mods removed the job post...

Hey Ryo,

I regularly receive these invites from Talent Specialists but it is hard to say whether or not this is a legitimate invite based on the information provided.

As a side note, maybe 10% of the invites that I receive are for jobs that I am actually interested in. The remainder are for jobs that don't align to my skillset or pay much less than my hourly rate on Upwork.

Good luck with the hunt!

Hi Ryo,

I checked the invite you received and can confirm it was sent from one of Upwork's Talent Specialists.

I too receive invitations from Upwork Success Talent Specialists.

It appears they look at our history, but that is not the whole story.

I have done a lot of copyediting for scholarly articles/theses, but I do not have an affinity for those jobs.

I wish they’d ask what kind of jobs I am interested in.
