Does an hourly contract have to be closed to get paid?

I'm a little confused by how the payments for hourly contracts work. Does the contract have to be closed in order to get paid? Or does the client just have to approve your time sheet? I've noticed my pay after completing work isn't consistently applied to the next week's pay. How do I ensure I get paid as soon as possible after completing work? Thank you for your help!

No, it does not have to be closed and the client does not have to "approve" the time sheet, it is approved unless the client actually disputes it.

Hourly contracts are paid according to the weekly billing cycle, which is always the same.

You can learn about that here
