Ending a contract with a spammer

I want to end a contract with a client because I'm certain they're using a "mailing list" server for spam. I despise spam. Not interested in taking a negative job completion score hit though. Suggestions?

Unforunately unless you're top rated, I don't think there's a way to avoid a JSS hit unless the contract ends normally and the client leaves positive private feedback.

If you don't want to continue working on this job, then you are not obligated to do so. Upwork allows freelancers to close a contract at any time, for any reason.

You are allowed to tell the client why. You are not obligated to tell the client why.

If you want to minimize any potential negatives from leaving the job, then you could be apologetic and "diplomatic" about how you explain to the client that you can no longer work on the project.

Generally speaking, clients don't actually care if YOU do the work. What they care about is if that the work gets done. A client would much rather have you be up front and prompt in telling them that you won't be able to finish, versus you evading the topic and leading them on for weeks while you don't do anything and then finally disappear.

If you end the contract without payment, your JSS will drop.  If you are totally against what they are doing I see this as the only solution.  If you complete part of the project (if that is even possible), they will likely give you a bad review anyway.
