I was wondering how other freelancers would feel about having the option to filter clients based on their budgets. My hourly rate means there's no way I can consider an entry level job, or one with a budget below $200. I know when doing a job search it's possible to filter out low budget clients but I think there are ways this can be improved:
1. Have the option to filter out low budget clients in saved searches
2. Have the option to prevent low budget clients inviting you to interview
3. And incorporated into 2, the Odesk job suggestions email could also be updated to take budget into account. I had to unsubscribe because my inbox was flooded with ultra low budget jobs that I wouldn't consider for a second.
I think this is something that benefits both sides; clients don't waste time chasing after freelancers that are out of their budget, and higher paid freelancers find relevant jobs quickly. It will also be a step against this trend of clients setting super low budgets because they want to see how cheaply we will work for; I've had clients set fixed price budgets of $200 for their projects when they were actually quite happy to pay $700+ after I explained to them I couldn't work for such low rates.

This totally makes sense! Especially point 2.
I'm moving my account from Elance, where it was much better handled. On Elance you could specify the minimal budget you're interested in, and the clients who plan lower budget simply won't be able to invite you.
Most of these ultra-low budget jobs make no sense. Upwork should really consider this.

I agree %100. There are so many jobs withy people wanting to pay 5-$100 that are overtaking my search feed. And these folks often seem to be the most demanding in their descriptions.

It's easy. Simply use the filters provided to set up job feed searches.

This idea was posted 5 years ago in 2015 and it's still not integrated. Too bad, because it's a great idea. Time is money and I don't even want to see jobs with single digit rates or budgets under $100. This would save a lot of resources and benefit everyone using the platform

Hi Doug,
When performing a search, you should be able to filter by budget here. You can choose any of these ranges or customize them to your own needs!
Hope this helps,
Thanks!

Hi Andrea,
I tried and failed.
I see the image you linked but couldn't get to it live.
I also clicked on the link to the help article on searching for jobs, but Upwork just sends me back to the main help page. It's not very user friendly.

Hi Doug,
To perform a job search:
Go to the Find Work tab
Type a basic keyword search in the box, or click the Advanced Search link for more options
On the search results page, use the filters on the left to further narrow your results
You'll see the filters to the left of your screen. We suggest you try several search combinations and a variety of filters to find the projects you're looking for. The searches accept logic operators like AND and OR. The Advanced Search option will perform complex logic for you.
Thanks!

Andrea G.,
I see the Budget choices to the left of the job search feed, but these choises appear to relate only to fixed price projects. The number of Fixed Price "JobTypes" (in parentheses) equals the total numbers in parentheses in the Budget section.
How does a freelancer looking only for hourly projects use the screening function to define the range of acceptable hourly budgets?

Hi Will,
That's right, the budget filter is used to find Fixed-Price contracts. Currently, there isn't a filter for hourly rates in the job search. However, you could also use the Experience Level filter as it typically helps tailor the search to show jobs where the client expects to hire expert, intermediate, or entry-level talent.
Thanks!
