Hi! I had a weird situation today. I applied for a job about a week ago. I am 100% sure that it was written "Method verified", plus I never apply if the client has unverified methods of payment. I got the job, and the client was answering after three days to my questions. This morning, we have finally cleared some terms for working. Now, I went in "My job section" and suddenly I saw "This client's payment method is unverified" written with yellow words. Is this possible? I don't know if I should continue working?
Solved! Go to Solution.

No. it is not. If the Payment method is unverified funds (even if fully funded) can NEVER be released to the freelancer until it is resolved. Your advice is dangerous, nonsense, and utterly wrong.
OP - if the Payment method shows as being unverified please do not work on the contract and wait to see what happens. It might be a temporary issue. It very often is. Let the client know and don't work on the contract until it is resolved. More often than not it gets sorted in a day or so.

Yes, it is possible. There may be some problem with your client's payment method. Probably card expiration or something else. They need to resolve it.
But if the payment method was verified when you started working and you logged your hours properly using Upwork App, the payment will be covered by Upwork Hourly Protection if the job is a hourly one.
And if it is a fixed price contract and if it was funded by the client already, then also it is ok. At the same time it is good to wait till the client verifies their payment.

If the fund is in escrow it is good to go. But check with the customer service.

Thank you. I wrote to the client and I asked politely to verify her method.

Petra..
https://community.upwork.com/t5/New-to-Upwork/Payment-Verified-change-to-Payment-Unverified/td-p/405...
This thread was posted on September 26th and with the same problem.
Where Vladimir posted a reply : "Note that a billing method can become unverified when a client's card expires, in which case they need just to update their billing method with new information in order to verify it again."
Where on this earth 26th is the end of the month.
Client may added the card long back and it may get expired last month and he may posted the job and funded the escrow earlier before the expiration, who knows? So without knowing the fact, dont talk rubbish.

And in this post :

Same Vladmir says :
//Clients usually have to verify their payment method before funding Milestone/s for Fixed price and finalizing terms on Hourly jobs. You can also ask your potential client to verify their payment method before you start working on the project. If it's an Hourly contract, you will be covered by the Upwork Hourly Protection only if the client's payment method is verified. If it's a Fixed price job, make sure the client funds Escrow as agreed before you start working on the assignment.//

Hi All,
I would like to confirm that if a payment method becomes unverified after Escrow was funded, the client will not be able to release the funds from Escrow. Upwork Fixed-Price Protection will not apply if the client's payment method is unverified either. That's why we don't recommend that the freelancer submit work on the milestone before the client sorts out the issues with their payment method.

Thank you.

Petra,
On July 27th your reply to a very similar question says :
"Unless the contract has been put on hold there is no issue. Freelancers are neither required, nor can they be expected, to check their client's payment method status on a daily basis."

Different situation. The OP has already been told the contract is on hold and the above had nothing to do with fixed rate contracts. Please, if you don't know or understand something, don't try to advise about it. Some of your responses are not just dead wrong, they could cost someone real money or even damage / risk their account.
Valeria has confirmed the correct information. Leave it be.
