France VAT

Hello,

In the account settings I need to give a VAT number. I am from France, have a valid VAT number that is verified at the European site VIES VAT number validation. I am however exempted from VAT payment. My problem is that the Upwork site does not allow me to put in all characters/digits (11 are allowed, but I have 13).

The format is the following:

FRXX 999999999 (which are 13, in which FR is country code, XX are also two digits, see https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/faq.html)

So my question is, how should I fill-in my VAT number? I guess it is one of the following options:

1). XX 999999999 (leaving out the FR prefix)

2). FR 999999999 (leaving out XX).

I have seen this issue posted several times but there is no clear answer. I would be really grateful if someone could help me out, or having a direct contact address of the Upwork administration, since I am in the process of getting the VAT number verified.
