Freelancer Legal Requirements

I am a U.S. permanent resident and college student trying to freelance. I'm missing a lot of knowledge about freelancing and it's tough to search up because I'm not sure where to start.

Can you please direct me to where I can learn about stuff such as legal requirements of a freelancer (i.e. Federal Tax Classification)?
