Freelancer New Metrics vs. Old Metrics

Have the new freelancer performance metrics associated with the new "Top Rated" initiative made the old freelancer performance metrics and methods (esp., feedback and ratings) even more meaningless?

There have been several posts lately from freelancers questioning and challenging the new "Top Rated" program and freelancers' "My Stats" -- an obsession with the mysterious Client Satisfaction "Job Success" score.

When the "Top Rated" program was first introduced, I saw an uptick in the quantity and quality of invitations. Now, soon after the release things have returned to the norm -- fewer invitations most of which are for low quality jobs from less than reputable clients.

The freelancer "My Jobs" and freelancer search for jobs features are still time consuming and ineffective. Client search for freelancers features return questionable results.

The new "Connects" system is not the problem. The problem is that finding the best jobs and quality clients is almost impossible. Certainly, the process is NOT effective and economical for freelancers or clients.

Does Upwork connect some clients directly with freelancers selected by Upwork? Is there a system within the system?

Sort of, although its actually linking freelancers with clients.  A sizable minority of the invites I receive originate from upwork rather than clients, with an email similiar to this:

I m tatally agree with you in this , because in the first month of this system in my 30 application only 30% clients was looking to hire someone and others were just checking the system and a freelancer like me dont know that this client will hire someone or not . they dont even closed the job postings . so sad for me and for other workers like me.

What Michael said. When I mark myself as available for new work, I usually get some invites - generally less than before (with one exception when I got 11 invites in 30 hours or so - none of which was a good fit). About 30% are from recruiting specialists and so far I haven't found single one of those invites suitable for me.
