Freelancer cancels a contract

Hi,

I'm a freelancer. My client sent an offer ($5), and I accepted it. A day later, she texted me and said she no longer needed the work, so I went ahead and canceled the contract. The point is I never submitted the work for payment, or in other words, I never got paid. Now, my client is asking for a refund; how do I refund when I never got her money?

Contract ID: 27137457

Thank you.

Because there was an actual fixed-price contract in place, it means that the client actually DID FUND a milestone payment in escrow. The client's credit card was charged $5.00.

If YOU closed the contract, then you ALREADY issued a refund of this $5.00. It will be returned to the client's credit card within 5 business days.

All you need to do is tell the client:

"Yes. I issued a complete refund already. This will be returned to your credit card within 5 business days. If you have any questions, please ask about this here: community.upwork.com"

You don't need to reply to any more of the client's messages after this.
