Hi Kata,

I would suggest consulting with a local tax specialist for your case and how to report your earnings from Upwork. You'll have access to your Upwork earnings as long as you complete W-8BEN form,

which purpose is to confirm you're not a US taxpayer. It's optional, Upwork won't charge VAT to anyone who has provided a validated VAT number but will charge VAT on the services to freelancers and agencies within the EU unless they provide a valid VAT number. You can find more information here.

Thank you.

Same as with VAT number, to your bank account or other means of payment, you just will be charged VAT on your fee as per your country of residence.

You can get paid if you don't have a VAT number. Upwork charges VAT on their service charge. So if you do a job for $100. Upwork's service charge on this is 20% + whatever your country's VAT charge is.

$100 less 20% = $80>(and if VAT in your country is 20% say) you will receive $76.

ETA: In the UK, you would be better off not having a  VAT number for the moment. As a freelancer, it is only worth your while once you start making in the region of £83,000 per annum (which you will when you qualify;)). But get advice from your local tax office. The UK tax authorities are mega helpful in my experience (even though I now live in France).
