Getting Re-Writing Jobs Off the Writing/Editing Platform

First, what is rewriting or re-writing? (It is also known as spinning or article spinning.) This is when an entity takes copyrighted material, other people's hard-earned IP, and then paraphrases or otherwise changes the actual words to avoid plagiarism detection engines and then republishes the material as its own content to make a profit. So, rewriting is, in fact, quite simply intellectual property theft by any other name. As such, it should have no place on this platform, as it only gives Upwork a bad name.

Why do entities want to create such "rewritten" material? Most often, these are companies who are producing ebooks on hot topics like CBD or cryptocurrencies or real estate investing who are too cheap or simply too unethical to hire content experts and writers to produce their own material and have no qualms about taking someone else's  for their own. They are often the same companies who then buy Amazon reviews to boost the ranks of these books. Other thieves are content farms who need material to stuff clients' websites with SEO-rich "articles" that get them ranked higher on Google.

They also tend to be bottom feeders in terms of compensation, with thousands of hours charged at $5/hour or less and are often but not always based in countries not well known for respecting international law--**Edited for community guidelines**

Upwork has done such a good job of filtering out other unethical practices (very few web-scraping offers, for example, and far fewer instances of outright academic fraud), I can't believe it a stretch to get these bad actors off the platform.

Thank you for your attention.

Hi Michael,

If you see any project that is in violation of Upwork's TOS, we encourage you to use the Report Suspicious User Activity feature.

Thank you!

You don't see too many of those jobs on here. Go to Freelancer, though, it seems as those are the only jobs keeping that platform running, lol.
