I am not really asking for advice per say, just wondering what others think.
I was hired for a freelance writing job on blog content. The job didn't have a lot of information besides needing a native English writer. He asked for a video chat about a month ago which I couldn't do since I was at my physical job and stopped messaging me. Recently he messaged me again asking if I could write content for his blog, which I said I could do. Here is where it gets weird. He wants me to watch porn and then write about what I watch. He then asked about my sexual history and if I knew about sex. I told him that was inappropriate and not his business, he insisted it was, then I stopped messaging him and reported it to Upwork.
It was a pain to even report it but Upwork saw the messages and told me they were handling it. I got an email last night saying they were taking action but couldn't let me know the outcome of the case. This morning I am still getting messages from him. I can't flag the original post for some reason and I am not responding to him.
My thought is shouldn't this guys profile already be down? I don't care about him wanting me to write about sex, its the fact that he took is way beyond that and started to get way too personal. He also asked me to speak to him off Upwork on Whats App.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I did block him after the numerous phone calls but even with that being said, Upwork should have completely gotten rid of him for the saftey of their clients. It isn't right.

Horrible situation and sorry you had to go through that Tami.
First of all, I would highly recommend to block him so you longer receive messages from him. You can do that under messages> click his pictures>block
Secondly, thank you for reporting him. Upwork should have taken down his profile and banned him. Super inappropriate.

Thanks Lila. Honestly at first I found it humorous because he was writing like this:
I want you to watch p o r n and write about s e x"
Like seriously.

If you took the appropriate approach why is he still messaging me today?

Block him and move on.
Go to the message thread and click on his picture / icon and choose "block XYZ"
Problem solved.

Okay...call me crazy but some jobs that involve writing about sex could be legitimate. I mean...I have seen jobs on my feed that mention that the subject matter is sexual health. I have also seen jobs for fictional erotica.
With that said, because he pushed to know *personal* sexual details then obviously he's way out of line and no, that's not a "job" anyone should take on. Hopefully Upwork takes action.
For your part, you probably already know you shouldn't have accepted a job where you didn't even know what the subject matter was. How did you know you'd be able to do the job well? What if you'd been required to write about turbine engines or the biochemical future of surgical anesthesia? 😄 Or something absolutely awful like "Why You Should Consider Becoming a Skinhead"?
Sorry you went through this! Let us know what happens.

It's not allowed. He's writing it that way to avoid filters and triggers on Upwork's end. It's the same thing for the ebay scammer who writes it as "e.b.a.y"

Not.
allowed.
on.
Upwork.
Any type of "adult" stuff is forbidden (whether it should be or not is a different question, but it is.)

Oh, I see. I just see so many come down my feed. Perhaps someone is reporting them later and they're getting pulled.

I didn't know too that the erotic stuffs were not allowed. I've seen some job ads where clients ask for a ghost writer who will write the new 50 shades for 90$ and more regularly offers for translations for "men beauty products" where the product is most of the time a "miracle" gel. Thanks for the info. And sorry about what happened to the author of this post.

I apply to jobs all the time that are contents for blogs. Usually if it is a job that requires specific traits then they say that.
I was completely fine writing about sex, I honestly thought it might be some sort of educational thing and then when it got personal I figured he was a weirdo and the links he gave me to the sites he wanted me to write for were not legit.
So far Upwork hasn't done anything, he is still messaging me.

Didn't you block him yet??

Clients don't have a profile, but he maybe got a warning. You'd think they'd kill an account like that but who knows.
Anyway, you can block him from messaging you.
