Hi everyone,
I used to be an active freelancer on this platform, and my profile had a Job Success Score (JSS) of 86%. However, due to personal reasons, I had to stop using my profile for the past two years. Now, I am ready to restart my freelancing career, but I've noticed that my JSS has dropped to 0% and my profile visibility has decreased significantly.
I'm seeking advice on the best strategies to revive my profile and get back to working on projects. What steps should I take to improve my JSS and attract new clients? Any tips or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.

H Nazish,
There have been several changes over the past two years, so be sure to review the Academy Learning Paths for updates and new tips for improving your profile.
Improving your JSS only comes when we successfully complete jobs with great feedback from clients. Both public and private feedback affect your JSS, so customer service and high quality work is always important.
In my opinion, the best way to attract new clients and win jobs is to have marketable skills and experience (you have both); a great profile; and well-written proposals/cover letters. Overall, your profile looks good, but there are a few things I would do to make it more appealing to clients:
1) Clinical psychology services are not always evident in the digital world. Many people still think of sitting in a private office with a psychologist and progressing through a counseling session. Of course this still happens, but online counseling has grown tremendously over the past 15 years, and potential clients need to be reminded of this.
With that, I would ensure clients understand the exact services you are providing and how you can deliver those services. For example, I would include the "how" in your introductory paragraph:
With over 9 years of experience in both clinical psychology and counseling, I bring a compassionate and evidence-based approach to supporting individuals in navigating their mental health challenges. I write mental health content and conduct therapy sessions using Zoom, Skype, or dedicated telehealth platforms. I can also provide sessions by phone and offer therapeutic support and guidance through email or text message for those who prefer written communication or need time to articulate their thoughts. |
Your summary does a great job of explaining what you can do. I think if you add the "how," it gives clients more insight into your services and how you can meet their needs.
2) The items in your portfolio look great, but be sure to add meaningful project descriptions. Clients will want to know the objective, requirements, and steps you took to meet those requirements. In your line of work, the more information you can provide, the more comfortable clients might feel.
Note: This might sound odd, but I think your Proposals and Researches portfolio item has too many samples--too many good samples. The documents you offer are great, but a lot of people will steal your content and claim it as their own. I recommend using only one or two sample documents here.
Also, if possible, consider changing the documents to PDF. You are using Microsoft Word (.docx) and PowerPoint (.pptx) formats, but many clients may not have the ability to open Microsft documents. The Adobe PDF format is universal and can be opened in any browser and across multiple platforms (i.e., desktop, mobile phone, tablet, etc.)
3) Your skills list looks good, but the word Psychology is nowhere to be found. I recommend adding Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Stress Management, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We are allowed up to 15 skill categories, and I believe all four are more relevant and more important than SEO Backlinking, SEO Keyword Research, SEO Content, and Biography & Memoir. In fact, I would place Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Stress Management, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the first four positions of your skills list.
Upwork uses your skill categories to match you with relevant jobs, and to help your profile appear in search results when clients search for those skills.
4) Add short job descriptions to each job in your employment history. A job description is especially important when the job is highly relevant to the services you provide on Upwork. Upwork uses keywords in job titles and descriptions to match you with relevant jobs.
I know that's a lot, but profile quality can help draw more attention and hopefully, generate more hires.
