Hi everyone
I do not have my own business, but have just left permanent employment and started a freelance contract with a business that uses Upwork - am UK based.
Before adding payment details, I am being asked to complete W-8BEN form which looks to ask for registered business address.
My understanding was that I can register as self-employed with UK tax office and complete self assessment without having to register as a business - is this correct and if so, what do I enter into the W-8BEN form??
Also, I didn’t realise you had to “track time” with Upwork, was simply going to manually enter time to invoice, so 2 things:
Any help really appreciated

Just add your own address.

- Is there anyway to add time to last week?? Or do I have to add to this week as extra?
- Does the payment cover matter for manual entering time?
1. Not for last week, no. Manual time is also not protected and even if you are willing to take the risk, please clarify with the client if they are OK with manual time. Just because it is enabled by default does not mean it should not be agreed on.
2. There is no payment protection in any way, shape or form for manual time. If the client defaults on payment or disputes, you will not be paid.

Hi - thanks very much
I am still struggling with tracking time though - there are only 2 strange options in activity drop down, not relevant to me and to be honest I am confused overall about how to use this - are there any helpful articles?
Many thanks

Have you downloaded the actual tracker and installed it?
It's pretty self explanatory. Launch the tracker, select the hourly contract you want to work on, toggle it to "on" when you start working and to "off" when you stop.
