"i recently tried to bid on a fixed price job with a budget stated of x dollars and it said in the post to bid less"

Yes, they do that to get past the "Budget" filter. They're like those morons who think someone who's set their spam filter to exclude "Viagra" will suddenly decide to buy it if you spell it "V14gr4".

It's been a while no one posted here but I'd like to bring up the issue again. This auto hidden feature is stupid (Yes, it's and I'm not taking it back). It doesn't make it smart when you use the word "algorithm". I see proposals getting hidden from "top rated" freelancers who have 100% success rate. The same thing goes for the "recommended" algo. I advertise a job for $8k and you're recommending me a guy who offered to do it for $300. Just let the people decide, just be fair and your business will develop. You don't need tricks to lure new freelancers to upwork.

It's a dead horse, Ed. The current system is on its way out as soon as they can roll out the new one. The new one will still sort according to Upwork's criteria, whether the proposals after the first screen are considered "hidden" or otherwise.

Hi Nasimul,

I have just checked several of your recent proposals from the clients' side and none of them were in the hidden folder. Moreover, you are usually recomended by Upwork. I would suggest focusing more on writing quality proposals to catch the client's attention and stand out among other candidates.

What happened with the "new proposal" page that Garnor announced back in August.

Hi Jean,

The new proposal page is currently still in testing. Although in the end of last month it was made available to more clients, it's still not available to all. Meanwhile we are reviewing client feedback and monitoring metrics.

So , do I have this right? We pay for a membership and use connects to apply for jobs. In some cases, the proposals can be hidden. So we paid for nothing?? How can that be fair to do?  We PAID for the chance to apply by using connects. If you take the connects, but hide the proposal how is that a fair exchange?  in a sense, we're buying a service and you take the money, but if you're hiding proposals how are you providing the service we paid for?

What person thought that was an ethical thing to do? Maybe I have it wrong and I hope I do.
