How are these "people" the top 10 "logo design" freelancers?

Wow, it's the first time I'm searching a freelancer just to have an idea of logo design prices just out of curiosiity, (not that I am doing that anytime soon) and this is the results I get:

Captura de pantalla 2017-01-31 a las 7.08.24.jpg

All fake accounts with names such as "Graphic logo" "whathever design" and $0 earned. I flagged some of the profiles, but this is so obvious and easy to check... All 10 have fake names!

How is that supposed to help me hiring anyone? I understand there is a rotation factor to show some profiles or others in search results, and I understand that these people have their skills as names so they rank better, but at least some freelancer with real names and some work history in the top 10 page would be helpful.

I also know I can use filters to get rid of $0 earned freelancer but I was so shocked with the first results that I just couldn't let it go. I just want to make my workplace a nicer place ๐Ÿ™‚

By the way, not PNG files allowed in the forum?

Hi Patricia,

Thanks for reporting the issue with profiles you located in search results. I'll ask our team to take action against the users for having a fake profile name and also conduct a full review to check for any additional ToS violations.

I would also like to clarify that apart from the profiles noted in your screenshot and a couple of others on the second page, the search results displayed freelancers with real names on every following page.

It's depressing Vlad ... it really is.  I've done that search a few times and end up throwing my hands up. I do not get how these profiles go unnoticed for so long. All they do is muck it up for the rest of us.

Vlad, we pointed that issue out months ago, at the time with translators.

As long as the search for certain skills pulls the results from the name field, it will always reward those fakes with the skill in their name.

Try with the keyword "Software" ....

And Vlad, sure, subsequent pages show genuine names, but when everyone wants to be on page 1 and the BEST way to get to page 1 is with a fake profile name........ that is very wrong indeed.

I agree Petra and Patricia and have already shared this information with our team.

Thank you Vladimir for your quick answer. However, I agree with Petra, as long as names rank in search results there will be more people trying to cheat the system. I was thinking in a proactive measure to prevent this from happening, some kind of filter that alerts you when anybody has a known skill in their names. Maybe something like what you recently added in the messages room when you write "skype":  when you write your name and it contains a skill you could get a message saying: is that your real name? your account could get suspended bla bla...

How do these profiles pass the upwork verification process?

unnoticed for sure lol

that's what I want to know, because the rest of us had to go through video verification and providing ID..etc

Your screenshot also makes me wonder about those two "rising talent" badges. What does that say about how rising talents are identified and showcased?

I hope everybody here is right about this, and that we haven't offended real people. I worry about receiving this letter:

"Dear Upwork Community Forum participants:

My name is Debbie Design and my husband's name is Danny Design. We are the parents of Graphic Design, Jupiter Design, Web Design and DragonFruit Design. All their lives, our children have faced ridicule because of their names. That is why they moved to different countries and were forced to work online as that is the only kind of work they can get. Please don't make fun of our children and their cousins any more."

Since Upwork accepts this trick, maybe I should change my name into French.

Don't bother, Rene. Tam is working on changing it.

Any updates on Tam's progress with this issue?

Hi Virginia,

Tam's team prioritized these update. However, it's still a pretty complex change and will take some time to implement. We'll keep the Community updated about this and will continue reviewing profiles for ToS violations and taking actions accordingly.

Thanks for the update - good to know it's being addressed.

this is really frustrating tbh, a lot of new freelancers (like myself) have to work hard for that first job (since there is no rating or feedback) and then you see fake accounts with rising talent badges...smh
