How decrease fix-price contract without penalizing JSS

Before I could start a new contract, the client's needs changed. It was not clear how to decrease the scope and amount, so he canceled the contract and started a new contract.

It never occurred to me that canceling a contract would hurt my JSS.  As many others have said, it is outrageous that our JSS is penalized when we have done nothing wrong.

I would like someone from Upwork to explain how to prevent damage to our JSS when the scope and amount of a contract are decreased.  If there is no way to do so, how can they justify such an unfair policy?

Hi Cathy,

If the terms are re-negotiated and changed before the offer is accepted and the contract starts, the client can withdraw the offer and then send you new offer with new terms. That will not affect your Job Success score.

My questions concern problems after a contract has been accepted.  Please respond to these requests:

1. The rationale for penalizing us when we have done nothing wrong.

2. How to avoid being penalized when a job's scope and amount are decreased.

Thank you.
