How do I add someone or be added to a chat room?

I just joined my company and I jumping into an existing project that already has an existing chat room with my business partner and our client, but when my partner tries to add me to the chat room it says "This person cannot be added as a member to this room". And it says that same message when I try to add him. I just want to join their conversation so I can colaborate.

Hi Jay,

I checked and it doesn't look like you've joined an agency yet or have been hired on a contract. If your partner has an agency on Upwork, they can add you and collaborate on a project. Alternatively, the client can hire you and add you to message rooms with other freelancers.
