Hi guys, I was wondering what apps or tools you use to track your freelance and contract work at UpWork? I'm currently facing the following issues: every client I work for uses individual tracking methods. One tracks me with UpWork, another just wants a screenshot, and the other one uses WorkTime Cloud to track my working process. So what app or tool do you use for your contractors or, if you hire someone, what tool do you use for tracking?

I'm not sure what you mean by "track." For tracking time on Upwork contracts, I use the Upwork Time Tracker. If the client is paying me a fixed price and I want to track my time or I'm working on a non-Upwork contract, then I use the time tracker feature of my task management app (you can find stand-alone time trackers).
If you are referring to tracking tasks, then a task management app is the answer. Some more robust task/project management apps allow you to track tasks and contracts. Depending on what you want to invest, you may find an app that tracks time, tasks, contracts and contacts. Up to you.

For someone who is new to Upwork (1 month) my understanding is that I have to track the time I'm working on a project if I'm being paid by the hour, not a "fixed rate". how do you get to the Upwork tracking? I've only done jobs where there was a "fixed rate". If there is another place on Upwork that walks me through the process I would love to know about where I could find it. If you can explain it here that would also be wonderul.
Thanks.

Rita S.,
Once you get TimeTracker installed, remember:
1) Turn it on each time you start work on an hourly project, turn it off when you are finished. TimeTracker works best in 10 minute increments, each of which begins at the top of the hour and every 10 minutes thereafter. Be sure to add a short description of what you are working on in the "memo" section for each TimeTracker session. (TimeTracker will automatically carry over the most recent memo unless you change it.) If you use TimeTracker correctly, Upwork's excellent hourly payment protection will be in place for you.
2) Until you know a client well and trust them completely, do not add "manual" time to your worklog. Manually logged work time will NOT be covered by Upwork's payment protection.
3) Don't start work on a new project until a) you see in TimeTracker a tracking timer with that project's name, and b) the client's payment method has been confirmed by Upwork.
For hourly projects, the Upwork work week ends every Sunday night at 11:59 Greenwich Mean Time (UTC). Your client(s) will have a chance to review your TimeTracker-tracked time the next day and Upwork will release payment to you about 10 days later.
Good luck!
